Kama Shivaya - A troupe of belly dancers clad in colorfully exotic attire dance into Caterina Winery, covered in tattoos, and speckles of musical jewelry. Throughout the night these women balance swords and plates and glasses of water on their heads while gracefully spinning and gliding to a live band, which is playing a hypnotic trance-hop instrumental that sounds like Portishead mixed with the Wu-Tang Clan. During intermission a lone dancer spins a flaming baton and hoola hoop on the patio. During the finale the standing-room only crowd is hollering and clapping in time. The Koreshakti belly dancers and music group Kama Shivaya have proven at consistently sold-out shows at Caterina Winery, that this Spokane multi-cultural performing arts collective is the real deal. Korshakti with Kama Shivaya makes its third event at Caterina and back-to-back night patio party  on Thursday, July 9 and Friday July 10 at 8 p.m. at Caterina Winery, 905 N. Washington St. Cost: $10; all ages welcome.

Rev. Horton Heat - It's like a gospel music, only there's beer and shots of whiskey, and cussing, and maybe a little fighting. Other than that, though, the Rev. Horton Heat's live show is akin to a revival. In fact, that's the title of The Rev's latest album. "Revival" is a country-flavored punkabilly hurricane, complete with themes of death, drugs, trucks, and a sick sense of humor set to seaming riffs informed by his 20-year journey through his own definition of R&B: rockabilly and blues. The Rev. is holds church on Tuesday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m. at The Knitting Factory, 919 W. Sprague Ave. Cost: $20 in advance, $22 day of show. All ages welcome.....

Koreshakti, a tribal fusion dance troupe performing for a packed house at Caterina Winery. For those unfamiliar with this group of women, let’s just say they are not your mother’s belly dancers. While a number of their routines incorporate Middle-Eastern gyrations and accompanying props, many of these dancers borrow liberally from hip-hop and other contemporary dance forms. They use veils and balance with candles and swords, but they also pop and lock their upper bodies to a combination of live and sampled music that blends traditional Eastern sounds with metal power chords and Bollywood techno. Even the costumes run a culturally diverse gamut, from spangled skirts and Spanish tassles to spike bracelets and fishnet stockings.
